Black Maidens Fight Back to Draw 3-3 Against Brazil at U-17 World Cup

Ghana’s Black Maidens staged a spirited comeback to secure a 3-3 draw against Brazil in their second Group C fixture at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, keeping their chances of advancing to the knockout stage alive.

The result maintains Ghana’s unbeaten record against Brazil in their two meetings at the tournament, following the Black Maidens’ 1-0 victory over the South Americans in 2010.

Brazil took the lead on Wednesday, October 21, but Ghana responded strongly, with Rafia scoring in the 31st minute before Gloria Ameaa completed the turnaround four minutes later to give the Maidens a 2-1 advantage.

Brazil, however, struck again in the 44th minute to level the score at 2-2 before the teams headed into the halftime break.

The Brazilians regained the lead in the 57th minute, putting Ghana under pressure to find another equaliser.

Ghana appeared to have restored parity in the 76th minute through Cynthia, but her goal was disallowed, delaying the Maidens’ comeback.

The Ghanaian side continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Priscilla Mensah found the back of the net to secure a 3-3 draw.

The result comes after Ghana suffered a 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening match, leaving them with one point from their first two group fixtures.

In the other Group C encounter, Canada defeated Norway 3-2, adding further uncertainty to the standings ahead of the final round of matches.

The Black Maidens currently sit at the bottom of Group C and must produce a strong performance against Canada in their final group game to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Despite their difficult start to the competition, the comeback against Brazil will provide the team with renewed confidence as they prepare for the crucial encounter against the Canadians.
