Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson Leads Ghana’s Delegation to IMF-World Bank Meetings in Bangkok

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand, as the government seeks to move from economic recovery to long-term growth.

The meetings, scheduled for October 12 to 18, come as Ghana prepares for the 2027 Budget, where Dr. Forson is expected to outline the government’s proposed New Economy blueprint for the country’s next phase of development.

During the gathering, the Finance Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with global leaders, finance ministers, senior IMF and World Bank officials, and representatives of other international financial and development institutions.

The engagements are expected to focus on Ghana’s economic progress and its development priorities, as the country seeks to build on the gains made in restoring economic stability following the 2022 economic crisis.

The 2026 gathering is the first IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings Dr. Forson has attended outside Washington, D.C., since assuming office as Finance Minister in 2025.

Ghana’s participation comes amid positive assessments from the Bretton Woods institutions regarding the country’s efforts to restore economic stability.

The government is now seeking to move beyond stabilisation towards building an economy that can sustain growth and deliver long-term development.

The proposed New Economy framework is expected to outline the government’s priorities, while the 2027 Budget will provide further details on the policies and measures intended to achieve those objectives.

Dr. Forson signalled this transition during his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, stating: “Stabilization was never the destination. It was the price of entry.”

The Bangkok meetings therefore provide an opportunity for Ghana to engage its international partners on its economic recovery and the policy direction it intends to pursue in the coming years.
