Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has thrown his support behind Carlos Queiroz remaining head coach of the national team, describing such a decision as the right move for Ghana football.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Ati Zigi praised the Portuguese coach for the positive atmosphere he created within the Black Stars camp during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I don’t know about his contract situation, but I feel he is a great coach, and I love how he brought about the positivity in camp. If the leadership wants him to stay, it will be a good decision,” the St. Gallen goalkeeper said.
Queiroz was appointed in April on a short-term deal following the departure of Otto Addo and led Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although speculation over his future emerged after a social media post suggested he had stepped down, the experienced coach later clarified that he had not resigned.
Under Queiroz, the Black Stars advanced to the Round of 32 after progressing from Group L as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams. Ghana recorded a win over Panama, a draw against England and a narrow defeat to Croatia before exiting the competition with a 1-0 loss to Colombia.
The Ghana Football Association is yet to announce whether Queiroz’s contract will be extended as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
