The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested 10 students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) for allegedly selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams during the institution’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.
The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted from Friday, July 31 to Saturday, August 1, 2026, while the event was ongoing.
NACOC said the operation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, described as the suspected leader of the group, alongside nine other young men believed to be involved in the production and distribution of the cannabis-infused products.
According to the Commission, the suspects were intercepted while allegedly marketing the products to students and other patrons attending the celebration.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the group allegedly operated an organised network involved in the production, distribution and sale of edible products containing cannabis, which NACOC says poses a risk to public health and the safety of young people.
The Commission warned that the production, possession, distribution and sale of food, drinks or other products containing controlled substances are prohibited under Ghana’s narcotics laws, and offenders will be prosecuted.
NACOC expressed concern about the increasing involvement of young people in the commercialisation of narcotic substances, describing the trend as a threat to educational institutions and communities.
The Commission urged parents, school authorities, student leaders and the public to remain alert and report suspected drug-related activities.
It added that the suspects remain in custody and will be processed in accordance with the law, while intelligence-led operations will continue across the country to disrupt narcotics-related networks.
