A horrific crash at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has claimed 11 lives, with several others sustaining serious injuries.
The victims were involved in a collision between a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus on Thursday morning. The impact left the bus severely mangled, trapping some passengers beneath the wreckage.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped victims and evacuate the injured to various hospitals.
ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said rescue personnel worked to free victims from the wreckage and provide emergency assistance.
Among those rescued was a woman whose legs were reportedly severed in the crash. She was transported from the scene by ambulance for medical attention.
The crash caused significant disruption to traffic along the highway as a portion of the road was temporarily restricted to allow emergency personnel to conduct rescue operations.
