Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against him.
The comments follow allegations made by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi.
Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin challenged his accusers to formally report the allegations to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative body.
He said he would fully cooperate with any investigation if a formal complaint is made. “If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin also disclosed that he has taken legal action over the allegations, saying writs have been filed in two separate cases involving individuals and media organisations.
One of the cases, numbered GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.
The second case, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Eric Agjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.
The Minority Leader said he remains confident that the courts will determine the matters appropriately.
Describing his willingness to face legal scrutiny as taking the “high moral ground,” Afenyo-Markin also warned against what he considers unacceptable conduct in political discourse.
“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.
He further defended his record as Minority Leader, insisting that he has discharged his responsibilities with integrity, hard work and a clear conscience.
