Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib has rejected reports that Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei returned a GH¢70,000 “gift” allegedly given to members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.
Mr Shaib described the reports as completely false and urged the public to disregard the claims surrounding a purported memorandum attributed to Mrs Appiagyei.
Speaking to TV3 on Friday, September 4, the Weija-Gbawe MP said he had spoken with Mrs Appiagyei, who was reportedly upset about the circulation of the document and questioned its authenticity.
He said: “There is no truth whatsoever in that story.”
According to Mr Shaib, neither he nor Mrs Appiagyei had received money from anyone in relation to the vetting exercise.
“I have not dealt with anyone, she has not dealt with anyone, I do not know who is dealing with this and where this is coming from,” he stated.
He further insisted that Mrs Appiagyei had not received any money and expressed concern over the appearance of her signature on the document being circulated.
