Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that it will resume spillage at the Weija Dam from Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as the water level continues to rise following heavy rains upstream.
The company said the water level has reached 45.2 feet, nearing the 46-foot threshold, due to continued rainfall within the Densu River catchment area and its tributaries.
GWL said the planned spillage is a precautionary measure to safeguard the dam and has consequently directed residents living downstream to evacuate the area ahead of any eventuality.
Residents have also been urged to remain alert, comply with official evacuation directives and avoid activities that could expose them to danger.
Communities likely to be affected include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach and Ada Kopey, as well as surrounding areas.
GWL has called on NADMO, the District Assembly, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, residents’ associations and other stakeholders to take precautionary measures and prepare for possible evacuation.
The company said it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates.
“The safety of residents is still our priority, and public cooperation is essential,” GWL said.
