Rev. Victor Osei Urges Pastors to Give Greater Attention to Their Children

Rev. Victor Osei has called on pastors to pay greater attention to their children and families, warning that dedication to church ministry should not lead to the neglect of parental responsibilities.

Speaking on Beyond the Honours, Rev. Osei expressed concern about pastors who spend considerable time travelling with their spouses or attending to ministry activities while leaving their children largely in the care of minders.

He stressed that raising and nurturing children should be considered an important part of a pastor’s responsibility, arguing that ministers must first take care of their homes before extending their attention to their congregations and the wider society.

According to him, pastors should recognise that their responsibilities at home are also part of the ministry entrusted to them and that they would be accountable for how they cared for their children.

Rev. Osei further cautioned against becoming so consumed with preaching and church activities that children are left without adequate parental guidance, saying such neglect could have lasting consequences for the family.

Addressing the perception that pastors’ children were more likely to become stubborn or rebellious, he noted that the issue was more prevalent in the past.

He attributed the situation partly to pastors who devoted most of their time to church activities and left the responsibility of raising their children primarily to their wives.

Rev. Osei’s comments highlight the need for pastors to maintain a healthy balance between their responsibilities to their congregations and their duties as parents, ensuring that their commitment to ministry does not come at the expense of their children’s upbringing.
