The Court of Appeal has struck out as withdrawn the Attorney-General’s application seeking to stay the execution of its decision acquitting and discharging former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu
The development came on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as the court was scheduled to deliver its ruling on the State’s application.
Counsel for the Republic, Hilda Craig, led by Winifred Sarpong, informed the court that the State had filed a notice withdrawing the application on August 10.
Counsel for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu, Sidney Antonio, acknowledged receipt of the withdrawal notice but argued that the State ought to have sought the court’s leave before withdrawing the application.
The court noted the concern but observed that the respondent did not oppose the withdrawal. It subsequently struck out the application as withdrawn.
The Attorney-General had filed the application after the Court of Appeal overturned Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu’s conviction and 10-year prison sentence, acquitting and discharging her.
The State has since appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision to the Supreme Court, arguing that a stay of execution was necessary to preserve the effect of the appellate court’s judgment pending the determination of its appeal.
The stay application was heard on July 31, 2026, after which the court reserved its ruling.
With the application now withdrawn and struck out, the State’s substantive appeal before the Supreme Court remains the next significant legal step in the case.
