Former Minister and veteran public figure Rev. Dr. Rosalind Joyce Aryee has called on Ghanaians to place the interests of Ghana above partisan loyalty, arguing that political affiliation should never become more important than the national good.
Speaking on Beyond The Honours, the interview platform from Christian Honours, Rev. Dr. Aryee said citizens should remain interested in how the country is governed, regardless of which political party they support.
Describing herself as “very political” but “not so partisan,” she said she would vote but would not allow party loyalty to determine what she believes is best for Ghana.
For Rev. Dr. Aryee, political participation should ultimately be about improving the lives of Ghanaians. She also called on people of principle not to remain silent when the national interest is at stake, stressing that speaking truth does not have to be confrontational.
She further cautioned against extreme political polarisation, likening political competition to sport: one side may win today and another tomorrow, but political opponents should never become enemies.
Rev. Dr. Aryee also argued that competence, rather than political affiliation, should guide appointments and opportunities, urging those entrusted with public responsibility to see their positions primarily as opportunities to serve.
Her reflections extended beyond politics. She spoke about the importance of faith, integrity, cultural identity and the responsibility of parents to ensure that Ghanaian children understand and appreciate their languages and heritage.
