No fresh security service applications in 2027 – Interior Minister

The government has announced plans to suspend new applications for recruitment into Ghana’s security services in 2027 to prioritise qualified candidates who are yet to be enlisted for training.

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak disclosed the decision on Tuesday, October 20, during an appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

He explained that the move followed a directive from President John Dramani Mahama and was aimed at clearing the backlog of applicants who had successfully completed the recruitment process but could not be admitted for training due to limited spaces.

According to the Minister, the recruitment portal will remain closed to new applicants throughout next year as the government focuses on candidates who have already met the required criteria.

Muntaka said authorities would continue selecting qualified applicants from the existing list until all eligible candidates had been given the opportunity to proceed to training.

He stressed that individuals who had completed the application process, passed the necessary assessments and qualified for training but were left out because of limited capacity would receive priority.

The Minister further indicated that fresh applications would only be permitted after the government had exhausted the current list of qualified candidates.

The decision means prospective applicants hoping to join Ghana’s security services will have to wait until the outstanding candidates have been accommodated before a new recruitment exercise can commence.
