Ghana’s Black Stars have suffered another injury setback ahead of the start of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
Star forward Antoine Semenyo and captain Jordan Ayew have withdrawn from the squad, adding to an already growing injury list.
Fullbacks Alidu Seidu and Baba Rahman will also miss the upcoming matches. Seidu’s withdrawal comes just days after he was called up as an injury replacement.
Young forward Jerry Afriyie has now been brought into the squad to strengthen the team, following the earlier inclusion of Felix Afena-Gyan and Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The Black Stars will open their Group C qualifying campaign against Ivory Coast in Bouaké on Thursday, before hosting The Gambia on September 29. Ghana will then round off the FIFA window with a friendly against Morocco on October 4.
Meanwhile, star midfielder Mohammed Kudus remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz will therefore have to navigate the opening fixtures with a squad heavily affected by injuries.
Ghana, Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia make up Group C, with the Black Stars needing to finish among the top two teams to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals.
