UG Directs Students with CGPA Below 1.00 to Withdraw

The University of Ghana (UG) has instructed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.
In a notice published on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the decision was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic requirements students must meet to progress to the next level.
According to the regulation, undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the additional academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression.
The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not make provision for academic probation. Consequently, students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released are required to withdraw from their programmes.
Affected students have been directed to verify their academic performance through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate their withdrawal requests through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).
The Directorate said students should log in to the portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.
However, it noted that in certain programmes, the relevant schools or departments would handle the withdrawal process on behalf of students who are affected by the directive.
Students seeking further clarification about their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university further assured affected students that its Careers and Counselling Directorate remains available to provide guidance and support as they navigate the situation.
