The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates, with more than 3,600 registered candidates absent from the examination.
According to WAEC, 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for this year’s examination, made up of 304,415 males and 315,828 females. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide.
The Council said 3,601 registered candidates did not take part in the examination.
WAEC also announced sanctions against candidates who were found to have violated examination regulations following investigations into reported malpractice cases.
It said the subject results of 496 candidates have been cancelled, while the entire results of 105 candidates have been cancelled.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the complete results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
The Council further disclosed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have also been withheld for additional scrutiny. It said the affected results would either be released or cancelled after investigations are completed by August 31, 2026.
Candidates can access their results through WAEC’s official results portal, while schools will receive results through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
WAEC urged candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled to visit its irregularities portal to check the reasons for the action taken and any required next steps. Heads of schools and proprietors can also verify the status of affected candidates using their school login credentials.
The Council also warned the public against individuals who claim they can alter examination results for a fee, stressing that its results are secure and can be authenticated.
